Zero-Click Search

A search interaction in which the user’s query is answered directly on the search results page without any click through to an external website. Enabled by Google’s featured snippets, knowledge panels, and AI Overviews, zero-click search has become the statistical majority of all searches in many markets.

SparkToro research (Rand Fishkin, 2026) found that in the EU only 374 out of 1,000 searches result in a web click, leaving nearly 60% as zero-click interactions. For content marketers, this trend shifts competitive strategy from maximizing web traffic to maximizing brand presence and authority within search result surfaces themselves.
